Halfwits use risk-taking methods(calculating probabilities) in uncertain(not risky) conditions
the problem with this is there is difference between risk and uncertainty.
risk is when all possible outcomes are known. You know all the probabilities.
like in coding, engineering(all types, including QA), or risk management in finance
uncertainty is different. You can't fully cover all the outcomes.
Hiring, relationships, anything around people's intentions, these all are uncertainty.
what you really need in uncertainty is intuition or heuristics.
intuition is compressed form of experience, your mind constantly subconsciously learns. And when recognizes pattern, your intuition suggests a decision. You dont realize its from experience. Because it comes as emotions not logic.
Or sometimes intuition is spiritual.
Heuristics is like best practices, very simple mental shortcut for quick desicions. You learn them from others.
Thats why children who were grown up by their grandparents are smart. They act like adults, because they learn heuristics from their grands
so if you are experienced on the topic and u have to take a decision in an uncertain situation, go with your first intuition.
if not experienced, go with heuristics
Heuristics is a good topic. It comes from philosophy. When you are a philosopher, you go through your thought process/reasoning alot.
And when you consciously know why you are doing everything you are doing, you wanna know the reasoning of the others, especially people you admire, respect.
Then u will compare your philosophy to theirs and adopt better ones
